Veneer sorting system
Motus Handling delivered a sorting system for veneer wood bundles of various sizes and dimensions.

Challenge
The product to be sorted varies significantly in size and shape. Veneer bundles can be conical, curved, banana-shaped, differ in colour, and may have reflective surfaces. In addition, the fragile nature of the veneer made this project particularly challenging for the Motus Handling engineering team.

Solution
Motus Handling delivered an automated system in which veneer bundles are fed into the installation and inspected for multiple characteristics using a camera-based inspection system. The bundles are then automatically sorted and stacked according to category.
The installation meets the customer's requirements through:
- A unique alignment system
- Automatic feeding of separator slats between stacks
- A specially designed gripper
- Conveyors adapted to the product characteristics
To support the logistics flow, the solution also includes a shuttle system and pallet distributors.

Efficiency, speed and reliability were improved through consistent and efficient quality inspection and sorting, despite the highly variable nature of the veneer product.
